Francis Pope and Patriarch of Constantinople ( Orthodox Church ) ,
Bartholomew , signed , this Sunday , May 25 , in Jerusalem , a joint
statement in which they assume a shared commitment to social causes and
dialogue between religions ."
We have a duty to offer a common witness of God's love for all people ,
working together in the service of humanity , especially in defense of
the dignity of the human person at all stages of life and the sanctity
of the family based on marriage , in promotion of peace and the common good , "says the text , released by the Holy SeeThe text signed by Francis and Bartholomew expresses environmental
concerns , recognizing " abuse " the planet , "what in God's eyes is
tantamount to a sin."" We commit ourselves in raising awareness about the protection of creation ; we call on all people of good will to take into account ways to live
cheaper and more frugal , "says the statement , divided into 10 points .The two leaders demand respect for religious freedom and call
Christians to " promote a genuine dialogue with Judaism , Islam and
other religious traditions."The Pope and the Patriarch of Constantinople expressed "deep concern"
about the situation of Christians in the Middle East , praying for peace
in the Holy Land and the Middle East in general.After the meeting , the Pope and Patriarch Bartholomew Francisco headed for the Holy Sepulchre , for an ecumenical prayer.
